With its substantial UK and international track record in the waste industry, Fichtner is in a position to provide developers and funders with accurate advice on the selection, efficacy, economics, engineering and construction of a wide range of waste processing technologies. In the UK, we are actively engaged in the development, finance and construction of technologies ranging from mechanical sorting to energy recovery and including:
- Mechanical Treatment – Including dry recyclables sorting plants and residual waste processing facilities;
- Biological Treatment – Including Bio-drying, Bio-stabilising, Anaerobic Digestion (AD) and In Vessel Composting (IVC);
- Energy Recovery – Including conventional combustion technologies (moving grate, rolling grate, fluidised bed, rotary and static kilns), gasification, pyrolysis, and plasma technologies;
- Mechanical Heat Treatment – Including a range of autoclaving technologies;
- Composting;
- Recycling;
- HWRC's; and
- Waste Transfer Stations
Fichtner has successfully supported lenders, developers and local authorities in a number of recent waste PFI contracts. Notable references include Dumfries and Galloway, Lancashire, Wrexham and Central Berkshire PFI projects, which have all achieved financial close and are either operational or under construction. The Company supports all aspects of project development and implementation including:
- Technical due diligence;
- Siting and Feasibility studies;
- Market studies;
- Concept development, process design and layout engineering;
- Bid development including full documentation production, mass flow modelling, BMW analysis and benchmarking for guarantees and costs;
- Environmental impact assessment and support for permitting;
- Engineering and Project Management, including the drawing up of procurement specifications and terms of engagement, selection of suppliers and contractors by competitive tendering, project management and site supervision;
- Commissioning support and training of client operational staff; and
- Post Take-Over support.
In the last 15 years Fichtner Consulting Engineers have assisted in the delivery of EfW, MBT and IVC facilities in the UK. Our technical skills have enabled projects with a combined capital value in excess of £0.5BN to be constructed. Through our work as both Owner’s and Lender’s engineer we are currently handling projects with a combined capital value in excess of £1.5BN, excluding all current bid support work.
