The 25 year Wrexham Waste PFI was signed in 2007, and included the construction of a Materials Recycling Facility, In-Vessel Composting Facility, Waste Transfer Station and Household Recycling Centres. The facilities, constructed across 3 sites, became fully operational in 2009.

Fichtner has worked with WRG on the project since 2005, developing the technical solution and specifications for the Wrexham Waste PFI. The project successfully reached financial close in May 2007 when construction and operation of the In-Vessel Composting Facility, MRF, waste transfer station and household recycling centres commenced.

Fichtner acted as Owner’s Engineer under a multiple contract procurement arrangement writing the specifications, including interface schedules, for all facilities, negotiating with contractors and acting as client project manager through construction.

Fichtner were are also Lender’s Technical Advisor to the PFI, completing technical due diligence and providing independent advice on technical matters related to the project including procurement, design, construction, operation and maintenance.
