Owner's Engineer for the development and multi-lot procurement of Sembcorp's Wilton 10 biomass fired power station. The station became the UK’s first large scale ‘wood to energy’ plant when it began full commercial operations in 2007.
The Wilton 10 biomass power station became the UK’s first large scale wood to energy plant when it began full commercial operations at Wilton in the autumn of 2007. The station takes its 300,000 tonnes a year wood fuel requirement from four separate sources: recycled wood is supplied in chipped form, off cuts from sawmills and short rotation coppice also supplied as chips, round wood logs are chipped on site. Once mixed, the woods are fed into a bubbling fluidised bed boiler to generate more than 30 MWe from a steam turbine set. The plant also has the capacity to export steam to the SembCorp site if required.

Fichtner provided engineering design and project development support to the project planning, implementation, construction, commissioning and testing.

Services included site assessment, project definition, preparation of specifications, review of tender invitations for selection and appointment of turnkey contractor, technical advisor during construction and support for commissioning and testing.
