Owner's Engineer for the development, procurement and construction of the Cory's Riverside Resource Recovery Facility; the UK's most efficient EfW facility
Fichtner Consulting Engineers have been providing technical advice to the developer of an energy-from-waste facility at Belvedere since project inception in 1992. Cory Environmental Limited set up a limited company, Riverside Resource Recovery Limited, to develop, construct, own and operate a three-stream Energy from Waste facility at their Belvedere site in southeast London.

The site is on the south bank of the River Thames and most of the waste and all of the bottom ash will be conveyed by barge on the river. Riverside Resource Recovery Facility is the largest, most efficient Energy from Waste facility to be built under limited recourse finance arrangements in the UK. It has a capacity of up to 670,000 tpa of municipal waste, is rated at 72 MWe with a plant efficiency of circa 27%. The project successfully reached financial close in July 2008, and is now under construction.

Fichtner is acting as Owner’s Engineer, offering comprehensive project management, site supervision, quality control, and management services including planning and local consultations, production of specifications and bid evaluation, contractor selection and negotiation of EPC contract, expert witness at Public Inquiry under Section 36 of the Electricity Regulations, preparation and submission of IPPC application and Project Manager for the contract under IChemE Red Book for the design, construction and testing phases of the project.
