On completion the Greater Manchester Waste PFI Contract was the largest single waste management contract let in the UK. The project comprises of over 40 facilities spread across more than 20 separate sites and includes one existing EfW facility, one new RDF fired CHP facility, mechanical biological treatment facilities (anaerobic digestion variant), in vessel composting facilities, materials recovery/sorting and various green waste shredding facilities, waste transfer stations and household waste recycling centres.

Fichtner acted as Lender's Technical Advisor to a consortium of financial institutions which included the European Investment Bank, Bank of Ireland, SMBC, BBVA, Lloyds TSB, and the Infrastructure Finance Unit (Treasury).

The project reached financial close in April 2009 and Fichtner continues to work with the Lender's monitoring construction and operations of the facilities.
