Owner’s and Lender’s Engineer for the development and construction of the award winning Western Wood Energy Plant - Wales’ first commercial scale biomass project
The Western Wood Energy Plant is a 160,000 tonnes per annum wood fired single stream power station. The plant uses clean recycled wood. Situated in Port Talbot the Western Wood Energy Project generates 13.8 MWe of electricity, equivalent to the yearly power consumption of 31,000 homes. Construction began in June 2006, was completed and commissioned in 2008 and is now fully operational.

Fichtner was Owner's and Lender's Engineer providing technical advisory support through the construction period for the funders, the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi and Englefield Capital Finance.

Services included:
  • Technical due diligence
  • Support for negotiation of EPC contract
  • Monitoring of construction and operation
  • Ongoing operating and maintenance support.
